Driving Force GT

I recently purchased a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel. Ever since August I have been without the G25 and I have been doing setups without any wheel. I am reviewing all 16 setups created with the controller and posting any of the updates over the next few days, expect all changes to be made before the new year. As for the DF GT I am very happy with it. The DF GT is no G25, but it is well worth its price at $100 cheaper than the G25, and a even better deal considering I got mine for less than the MOMO wheel. The feedback isn't as clear from the DF GT as it is in the G25, the wheel feels too small, and the shift paddles are more like shift buttons. Since all the buttons are on the steering wheel I made the shift-up function the handbrake and left the shifting to R2/L2. One plus side to the DF GT is it that it is a bit quieter than the G25 so you can play without disturbing anyone. If you can save up your money and buy a G25, if you can't the DF GT is the next best thing.

Notes:
As you can see I have taken this setup down. So why, then, did I not just delete this page? Because this car is incredible. Second only to the Hyundai Coupe. This FTO is faster than the Hyundai, but the Hyundai feels more refined. There's a sort of grace to driving the Coupe, where as the FTO is like a primitive reptile thrashing about to break its prey's neck. What both these cars prove is that FWD cars can be just as at home on the track as RWD cars. They also prove that they can be more fun than RWD cars and here's why: so many modern RWD cars just are too easy to drive. Take the 350z for example. It is fast but it'll let you overstep the limit all day and never try to kill you. This FTO feels more exciting, it doesn't like being taken past the limit, but if you happen to go too far you suddenly get a reminder that this is a FWD and everything is going to be okay. So it won't have your head for a mistake, but it won't hold your hand the whole time either. This car is worth driving, and above are just a few things needed to make it competitive.

Gran Turismo 4 (GT4) Car Setups

All-Wheel Drive Advocate takes into account every cars own special dynamics to provide the best possible setup. Though GT4 is just a game, AWD Advocate attempts to make somewhat realistic adjustments to the cars power, weight, and suspension. What this means about our cars is they are not meant to be as fast as possible, they are meant to be as competitive as possible. In the past every car was a stripped out racer, and some of the setups were more crude. Now our new setups are much more refined, and AWDA tries to make the setups as cheap as possible. The cars are meant to be track day cars that still have all the comforts of the stock model (thought the suspension may be uncomfortably stiff). The setups are tested on several circuits to make sure they handle well on all tracks and not just the one track it was first setup on. If the setup was intended for a specific race, the car will be tested on those tracks. B-Spec is also used as a sort of independent 3rd party that can return unbiased times. Setups are also post-reviewed. Occasionally a setup will be chosen randomly and tested again to see if any further improvements can be made. If any major changes are made they will be shown as "(update)" for a full month and listed in the monthly AWDA News.

Things to know:
  • I usually drive with a Logitech force feedback wheel, G25 or Driving Force GT, but not always. The setups may handle better with the wheel.
  • These setups are designed for use without driver aids.
  • Some of the older setups say "Double Clutch" which was supposed to be twin-plate clutch, but I'm too lazy to fix them all.
  • I buy as many parts as possible from HKS.
  • All costs are listed by their values on the American version of GT4.

Last Setups...

As the days get longer, my days left here in Northern Europe grow shorter. I'll miss living here, but at the same time it will be nice to be in the States. This means too that I wont have a copy of GT4 to play, and at this point I might just wait for GT5 to come out, so I figure it is time to post the last three setups of GT4. I wanted to post cars that aren't just good cars, but astounding ones. For these last 3 setups I wanted to post the best RWD, FWD, and AWD, car I could get, and I mean the very best, and I have all three cars ready...

I didn't come to my decision easily. While I had a clear choice in my mind for AWD, I had three cars in mind for RWD. The Cadillac Cien, Pagani Zonda, and the ___ ____. The Cien and Zonda are both very interesting cars in very different ways. The American Cien has an engine that seems like it should be from Italy; while the Italian Zonda has a German engine that seems like it should be from America. The Zonda's Merk engine, with it's best power around 6,000rpm, does have it's advantages however. You needn't down shift so often with the Zonda, and because of it's torque and power curve it can be geared to have a short first 5 gears for acceleration, and still have plenty of torque for a longer 6th gear. The Zonda was a close second to the car I ended up choosing, and the Cien a close 3rd. I think the Cien was actually much better then the Zonda, but the Cien being a concept car was in a way disqualified. The Cien has a great engine, and is wonderful to drive, but I am more pleased by the amount of work that went into making the Zonda as good as the Cien. So what car could possibly be better then a Cadillac Cien, or Pagani Zonda? Find out come the 25th, in the mean time check out the Zonda, and Cien setups in the GT4 setups blog.

Kaid~

I'm also going to go through all my old setups and enter the information into my new posting format so they will be easier to understand, I may also update some of them while I am doing this. Any setups with major changes will be listed with "(update)" after the name of the car, while most of the cars may have minor changes to the setups.
